John organized and financed the annual Cozumel Trips for the shop where he worked from 1995 to 2004. The shop had no recent history of offering travel at that time so they signed on as sponsor. John shared with the shop rather than the other way and BuoyancyQuest inherited that travel history from John. That is why we say:

BuoyancyQuest, LLC. began in 2006 but "we" have been offering quality dive travel since 1995.

FAQ & FYI

When people signed up for the trips at the shop they had a variety of expectations. Some were new to diving and sought the security of a store sponsored trip for their first dive travel experience. Some were interested in the social benefits of an organized trip and a few thought that they might cultivate a special status or relationship with the dive center by patronizing a shop trip. None of them signed up with the thought of forever changing the way they viewed diving. Not one of them expected to achieve a degree of buoyancy control beyond their imagination. Many of them would realize bottom times in excess of their wildest dreams. None of them came looking for improvement on anywhere near that scale. What they found exceeded any and all of their expectations.
Now BuoyancyQuest has no formal relationship with a dive center and while there may still be social benefits to our trips we no longer recruit from customers walking through the door to shop. Divers who are seeking "most favorite customer" status do not flock to us. Now we offer, as our pledge, what was once a surprise bonus. We offer our trips as a quality workshop. We promise you the opportunity to add real improvement to your SCUBA Skills. If you are not looking for improvement you can have fun and be safe on a typical store sponsored adventure. We can only compete for your business if you are in the minority. If you are the diver who is looking for something more. For something special. If buoyancy control or frog kick are your quest, we can "walk that walk!" If fundamental improvement is not your expectation, if you seek "only" plastic or any plastic validation....."look elsewhere.... because this is the wrong place."

We never book a blind trip to dive with strangers or to give up control to the host facility.
We provide advice and mentoring, before during and after our workshops.
We offer opportunities to maximize your bottom times and improve them within recreational depth limits.
We include a trip t-shirt and we include a video DVD of two of the later dives.
We provide a dive leader who can do more than just talk about improving dive skills.
We have been doing business with the same local vendors for almost 20 years and they support our efforts.
We do not include food and beverages but we can guide you through a variety of suitable choices.

MEXICO IN GENERAL ~ COZUMEL IN PARTICULAR

For many people in the United States just the name "Mexico" congers up demons and peril. "Don't drink the water!", "Bandidos!", "Tourista!" and most recently "Narcotraficantes & Drug Wars!"
Well every lie, every exaggeration has a grain of truth somewhere in its' history but divers should know better because they have already overcome that other evil word: "JAWS!" Yes.......there are sharks in the ocean..........and there are no fences....BUT!

Still many dive travelers to Mexico and elsewhere prefer the "all inclusive" method of travel and invite, in many cases, the very bacteria that they wish to avoid. Food served in a buffet in a warm climate is often a formula for distress. We believe that if an accurate survey was conducted the people who dine in town at local establishments would fare better than those who stay "All INCLUSIVE". especially on Cozumel. That's just our opinion after 20 years of returning to that island. We know where to eat and you are welcome at our table . Just remember....................we don't want our divers to get sick.
